December 30, 2013

Wow--Where did my winter break go? I can't say I will miss 2013. It has been a year of difficulty for me both professionally and personally. I am looking forward to 2014. I plan to make some changes to my life.

Personally--I am joining a gym. My husband and I will be living a healthier life style.

Professionally--I plan to not sweat the small stuff. I plan to focus more on the things I can change and less on the things I can not.

Classroom--I plan to organize my manipulatives and shelves.

Blog/TPT--I will devote more quality time to my blog and products. 2014 will be a great year. (If I say it enough I am hoping that it will happen)

Just-For-Fun--I want to learn how to knit. I have wanted to learn for some time. I will find the time in 2014 to learn.

The Things Kids Say or Draw

We have been learning this week about the Mayflower. I have read books, showed the Scholastic video, and talked about it. So when I asked my little kiddos "What was the name of the ship the Pilgrims came to America on?" I was expecting them to say Mayflower. Instead one of my little kiddo sat up straight and raised her hand high in the air displaying a true confidence she knew the answer, so I called on her. She said "The Cauliflower" Friends I almost lost it. It took all I could do to keep a straight face.

Here is a couple of pictures of things we have made over the last couple of days.

Check out Spiderman trying to get on the Mayflower. To cute!

Five For Friday

Have you seen the give away over at

Yesterday I went to a great in service. I know as teachers we cannot always say that. This year our school implemented a new assessment for reading. It’s called IRLA and I admit I dug my heels in and was not happy  I was thrilled about it and accepted it with open arms. Now that I have had several weeks to see it in action in my classroom I am impressed with the improvement my students are making. The in service yesterday gave me some things to think about. Like setting a purpose for their silent reading time. I always just thought the purpose was SILENT READING..well I learned that you should set a focus to correspond to what reading strategy they are currently learning..okay so  maybe I am the only one that came late to the game.

McDonald's Sweet Tea how would I ever make it through my day with it!

I'm Loving It

I am super excited that I get to go to my FIRST NFL football game. Our school family will be getting together on Sunday to watch the Tampa Bay Bucs Play their hearts out!

When I say my husband is my best friend I truly mean it. The man is a rock star in my eyes. I want to also honor him this week because he is a Veteran. I am thankful for all the men and women who serve!
