The Things Kids Say or Draw

We have been learning this week about the Mayflower. I have read books, showed the Scholastic video, and talked about it. So when I asked my little kiddos "What was the name of the ship the Pilgrims came to America on?" I was expecting them to say Mayflower. Instead one of my little kiddo sat up straight and raised her hand high in the air displaying a true confidence she knew the answer, so I called on her. She said "The Cauliflower" Friends I almost lost it. It took all I could do to keep a straight face.

Yesterday I went to a great in service. I know as teachers we cannot always say that. This year our school implemented a new assessment for reading. It’s called IRLA and I admit I dug my heels in and was not happy  I was thrilled about it and accepted it with open arms. Now that I have had several weeks to see it in action in my classroom I am impressed with the improvement my students are making. The in service yesterday gave me some things to think about. Like setting a purpose for their silent reading time. I always just thought the purpose was SILENT READING…..well I learned that you should set a focus to correspond to what reading strategy they are currently learning…..okay so  maybe I am the only one that came late to the game.

I am super excited that I get to go to my FIRST NFL football game. Our school family will be getting together on Sunday to watch the Tampa Bay Bucs Play their hearts out!

When I say my husband is my best friend I truly mean it. The man is a rock star in my eyes. I want to also honor him this week because he is a Veteran. I am thankful for all the men and women who serve!
